Request for Co-operation

The issue of how to create and promote industry in Japan is both topical and crucial. As a committee member for some large municipalities in Japan, I have undertaken to research new strategies and policies that might foster and develop new industry in Japan.

For this challenge, one of the most important approaches is to incubate venture companies by activating entrepreneurship. In order to understand how to activate entrepreneurship and accelerate the generation of new business with venture companies, I am particular interested in New Zealand.

Research shows New Zealand to be one developed country in which entrepreneurship is very high, and many venture companies have been created, while Japan’s position has been the lowest. I wish to get some insight into why this might be the case, through the investigation of entrepreneurs and people who opted to work in established companies in New Zealand. I hope that Japanese municipalities might learn from New Zealand's success. I hope that policy initiatives inspired by the New Zealand experience might foster and develop new industry and entrepreneurship in Japan.

I would greatly appreciate your co-operation in completing the questionnaire. The questions were developed to ensure that the results can be converted into concrete measures for developing new business. Please bear this in mind as you answer the questions. I will publish a report on the findings of this research on this website, and participants will be notified by email at the time of publication. This research will also be presented at the Japan Research and Technological Planning Conference.

Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,

Dr Shu Ishiguro.
